Introduction to Narrative Therapy
In January, Chris Frank, M.A., LPCC, will share how insights and practices from narrative therapy can positively impact your work with others. Narrative therapists facilitate change by helping people “author” their own lives. Assuming that the way we make sense of our lives also prescribes how we live, narrative techniques are aimed at building agency, personal responsibility, and living our creative best in the world. Strong narratives are collaboratively created and include the whole truth about our lives: our strengths, values, personal and interpersonal tensions, shortcomings, as well as the larger cultural, historical, and faith stories we find ourselves in. You will learn how a narrative worldview can help you develop robust, honest, and compassionate ways of thinking about yourself and others. You will also be introduced to specific tools and techniques for developing strong narratives. Finally, applications of this type of approach will be outlined and its usefulness for individual issues like trauma, addiction, or anxiety as well as relational issues like marital conflict or forgiveness. Please bring your experience and your questions as we explore these ideas together!
Please indicate your plan to attend this session by replying to this email or contacting us through the Friday Forums page at ARDENWOODSPSYCH.COM . If you have ideas for future sessions, please use one of these methods to share these also.
We look forward to seeing you at this session as we continue our journey of learning and growing together.
