Giving to Salem Covenant Church
New Brighton, MN
There are many giving and service options you can choose to help support the ministries of Salem Covenant Church.
Online Giving
Salem’s giving platform makes giving easy and secure. Giving can be done via credit/debit card, directly from your bank account through ACH, and now directly by texting SALEMCOV to 833-608-6888. *
Both one-time and recurring gifts can be set up.
Cash Giving
Place cash or checks in the giving plates when passed during the service, or mail-in contributions to the Church Office (2655 5th Street NW, New Brighton, MN 55112). Using your assigned offering envelopes will assist our Cash Receipts Clerk in efficiently tracking and recording gifts into our contribution database. Offering envelopes for 2025 are available in the Narthex during December. If you haven’t been assigned an offering envelope box, and wish to request offering envelopes, please contact Salem’s Cash Receipts Clerk.
What are offering envelopes for?
Offering envelopes really serve two main purposes. 1. To help us track giving for the church’s financial records and for the year-end giving statement. 2. A reminder to think and pray about giving while at home. It’s probably a good idea to keep them wherever you do your bookkeeping.
Do I need to use envelopes to have my contribution appear on the giving statement?
Not if giving with a check. All checks received are matched up with the giver. However, envelopes allow us to efficiently track cash gifts. If you forgot your envelopes, blank ones are available at Salem. Simply write your name and either your envelope number (if you happen to know it) or your current address so that credit is given to the right person.
I use the Online Giving Site or the Automatic Contribution Plan, why am I still getting envelopes?
Signing up for one of the electronic giving options does not automatically take you off the offering envelope distribution. If you do not wish to receive offering envelopes, please contact Janell Davalos.
Stock/Mutual Fund Transfers
Donate stock or mutual funds directly to Salem. Donating appreciated stock directly to Salem can be a tax-planning strategy to avoid paying capital gains tax.
How Do I Donate Stock?
If your stock is held by your broker, it is as easy as a telephone call. Contact Marcy Toensing (651-633-9615 ext. 350) to receive Salem’s broker account information. Then your broker transfers the stock directly to Salem’s account. If you hold the stock certificate, contact Marcy Toensing for assistance in signing over the stock certificate to Salem.
Charitable IRA Rollovers
Eligible individuals (people over the age of 70 1/2) are allowed to make tax-free distributions from their IRA account for charitable purposes. The distribution must go directly from the IRA Account to the church or charity to qualify for a tax-free rollover. Because no tax is paid, a charitable tax deduction is not available for this type of contribution. Please consult your Financial Advisor, Tax Accountant, or Attorney for tax advice.
Charitable Grants
Salem is now participating in the Thrivent Choice program, which allows Thrivent members to direct Choice Dollars to Salem. Thrivent is a financial services organization that helps Christians be wise with money and live generously. Thrivent members have a voice in where funding goes through Thrivent Choice. By directing Choice Dollars, eligible Thrivent members can recommend Salem to receive charitable grant funding from Thrivent. If you are an eligible Thrivent member, please consider Salem when directing Choice Dollars.
There are many other Charitable Grant programs available (Covenant Trust, Schwab, Fidelity, InFaith Community Foundation, etc.). These programs work with individuals and families to set up Charitable Funds, and then donor-advised grants are made to Salem and other charitable organizations.
Salem’s Legacy Fund
The Salem Legacy Fund was established in June 2016, and provides a special fund for undesignated estate gifts that will support strategic initiatives, special one-time projects, and certain mission work that is typically outside the scope of the general operating budget. Gifts to the Legacy Fund are intended to be used within a five-year period. Remembering Salem in your Will (or other estate planning methods) is a way that members and friends can contribute to the Legacy Fund and continue the impact of our ministries long into the future.
