English Camp in the Czech Republic Supports Language Skills and Spreading the Gospel

Four years after Salem last sent members on a mission trip to the Czech Republic, God provided an unexpected opportunity for Mark Nygaard, Linda Smith, and Don Vavrosky to return.

The three missionaries joined seven people from Brick Lane Community Church in Elverson, PA to help lead an English camp.

The volunteers shared English, encouraged some of the few Czech Christians, and helped them share their faith with neighbors at the 14th English camp organized by a Církev Bratrská (“Brethren Church”) in the eastern city of Ostrava.

The camp was held from July 22 through 29 at a comfortable and affordable hotel in the village of Nový Hrozenkov in the mountains on the border with Slovakia.

About 70 Czech adults, teens, and children from the church and beyond attended.

Afterward, the Americans participated in a worship service in Ostrava, and Don and Mark visited in Prague with three friends from the southwestern town of Trhové Sviny, where our church sent whole teams to serve at English camps from 2014 through 2019.
