Giving Envelopes
At Salem Covenant Church, we use giving envelopes to help track cash and check donations. They also help remind us to pray over our giving at home. Envelopes are available in the Narthex each December. Email Salem’s Cash Receipts Clerk to request giving envelopes.
Additional Ways To Give
Stock/Mutual Fund Transfers
Donating stock or mutual funds directly to Salem can help you avoid paying capital gains tax while supporting the mission of our church.
If stock is held by your broker: Email Salem’s Business Administrator to receive Salem’s broker account information. Your broker can transfer the stock directly to Salem’s account.
If you hold the stock certificate: Email Salem’s Business Administrator for assistance in signing over the stock certificate to Salem.
Charitable IRA Rollovers
Eligible individuals (people over the age of 70 1/2) are allowed to make tax-free distributions from their IRA account for charitable purposes.
The distribution must go directly from the IRA account to the church or charity to qualify for a tax-free rollover. Because no tax is paid, a charitable tax deduction is not available for this type of contribution.
Consult your financial advisor to discuss charitable IRA rollovers.
Charitable Grants
Charitable grant programs allow individuals and families to set up charitable funds and make donor-advised grants to charitable organizations.
Salem participates in a variety of charitable grant programs, including:
- Thrivent Choice Dollars
- Covenant Trust
- Schwab
- Fidelity
- InFaith Community Foundation
Consult your financial advisor to discuss charitable and donor-advised grants.
Salem Legacy Fund
Established in 2016, the Salem Legacy Fund allows people to name Salem in their will or estate planning to make an impact for generations to come. This fund helps support:
- Strategic initiatives
- Special one-time projects
- Mission work outside our scope of the general operating budget
Gifts to the Salem Legacy Fund are intended to be used within a five-year period.
Consult your financial advisor to discuss giving to the Salem Legacy Fund.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is tithing?
Tithing is simply giving the first tenth of all your income before taxes or anything else is taken out. When you tithe, you are making an investment into the Kingdom of God and saying to God: “I trust you to supply everything in my life.” It teaches us to always put God first in our lives.
What is stewardship?
Stewardship is the faithful and responsible management of the things God has entrusted to us. Biblically, stewardship is rooted in the belief that everything belongs to God (Psalm 24:1) and that we are called to manage God’s resources wisely for His purposes and glory. This includes not only financial resources but also our time, talents, relationships, and Creation itself.
Do I have to use the envelopes to track my giving?
If giving cash, your envelope helps us match your cash gift to the right person. If you forgot your giving envelope, use a blank envelope (available in the sanctuary pews and at the Contemporary Worship information rack) and write your address or envelope number to help us track your gift.
If giving via check, we can match the name on your check to match the gift to the right person.
I give online but still want a physical acknowledgment of my gift to place in the offering stand. What can I do?
Cards are available in the Sanctuary pews and at the Contemporary Worship information rack that you can place in the offering plate. These cards indicate that you have made an online or electronic gift.
